    Eligible attendees are undergrad and graduate students. Both PhD students and post-docs are eligible as well, but priority will be given to PhD students. Saturday morning will be filled with special presentations by noted scientists in the fields of advanced ceramics and composites. A professional development workshop will take place in the afternoon and will be followed by a social hour and dinner.

    Winter Workshop participants are able to attend all events of ICACC, which showcases cutting-edge research and product developments in all aspects of ceramics. The technical program and Industry Expo provides an open forum for scientists, researchers, engineers, students, and industry leaders from around the world to present and exchange findings on recent advances in ceramic science and technology.     All firings are led by Dan Tomcik, our studio and grounds manager, who is an accomplished ceramist and well versed in firing this kiln. Daniel Tomcik is a functional potter born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA.

    Daniel started working in clay at California University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his BFA with a concentration in ceramics under Richard Miecznikowski. While in college, Daniel worked at Standard Ceramic Supply Company as the lab tech intern from He was a resident artist at Touchstone Center for Crafts in and also worked at Touchstone as a studio assistant in and LateDaniel moved to Baltimore, Maryland to study under Jim Dugan as the wood kiln assistant at Baltimore Clayworks, firing the Noborigama nearly every weekend.

    During the workshop, we will make a figurative wall sculpture, a seated pose and a torso. We will learn to use our own bodies for measurements so we can work without a model.
